“Mike has a fascinating way of using interviews in long unedited sequences with rare cutaways and no contributor removal – alongside scenes where detailed foley and moving score help paint the emotion behind Ronnie and his artistic talent. One scene, in particular, posed a unique challenge for me. I remember Mike giving me a very Stones-esque rock track he had developed to run with some interviews from the band talking about Ronnie – he gave me the direction “don’t turn the music down”. I’m used to having a primary sonic focus and volume adjustment is the most accessible tool for mixers to impart that focus onto the audience. The end result took some crafting but it really does energise that part of the film and with no sacrifice to intelligibility.” Thanks for that one, Mike!
