Halo provided full Picture and Sound Post Production.
Exec Producer, Gideon Bradsha said “We’ve felt totally supported throughout the process and are hugely appreciative of all the talent, care and attention to detail that the entire halo Space Team have brought to this project.
Having Adam, Katherine and Gerrit attached all the way through was incredible this time around and really made things straight forward in that they were so invested in the series.
Karen and Monika were endlessly supportive and patient with us all the way through. As I’m sure you’re fully aware, the financial pressure in our industry is real and we really appreciated that you helped us keep broadly to the quote when the sound design issue came up… and I think the compromise on time was worth it, the shows still sound incredible.
Please pass on our thanks and gratitude to the entire halo Space Team.”
Line Producer, Sarah Reddi said, “Thank you, team halo, so much for all your incredibly hard work and support, it is hugely appreciated, and great teamwork has resulted in a fantastic looking series. I hope to work with you all again in the future.”
Milla Harrison from NOVA said “The NOVA post has gone super well and Gerrit, Adam and Katherine have done a brilliant job. Also, your receptionist Maddy is wonderful and made me feel so welcome every time I came into halo!”
halo’s Colourist Katherine Jamieson delved into her thought process on how she helped achieve the desired look for each setting:
“The series is about exploring hidden and unknown worlds, places where we have very little access and visual representation for. Therefore, it was our job in the grade to create colour palettes for each of the places that they visit throughout the series and also to evoke the environments they inhabit.”
She went on to explain…
“Venus for example, a world of sulphur is yellow, but not a sunny yellow of warmth more an insipid greeny yellow where you feel sickly and claustrophobic. Mars, often known as the red planet we made a pinker shade of red to separate from the more orangey red tones we used for Titan. The teal green for Uranus with contrasting purple aurora and getting the blue just right for Neptune were all very considered. Where possible, we consulted the science, though unhelpfully the further from the sun, the more burnished and rust-coloured it became so we used a little artistic licence to create separation between the moons and planets for the series.
As it’s all presenter-driven, the Picture Finishing team used different techniques to bring together the conditions of actuality with the artificial environments to really make it feel immersive.
It was a real world building creative experience working on this series and I’m so proud with how it looks.”
